Story of Seasons: Grand Bazaar Friendship and Romance Guide

This guide goes over everything you need to know about befriending and romancing characters in Story of Seasons: Grand Bazaar, including the remake's reworked way of handling friendship levels.

How to Become Friends With Characters

A lot of what you've come to expect with Story of Seasons and other farming sims in regards to friendship is still the same here. You can talk to characters and give them gifts to increase your friendship level with them. Grand Bazaar also includes the "Greet" function (ZL/LT on controller), giving a smaller friendship gain than talking directly without requiring you to stop for each NPC.

You have a few other ways of essentially passively increasing friendship too. Participating in events will net you friendship points with all characters (assuming you place in the top 3), along with selling items to them at the bazaar. Because of this, gifts aren't overly necessary to max friendship — for our first year, we reached 7 hearts (out of 10) with most characters.

Requests

In Grand Bazaar, you can't just max out each character from the get go. At specific heart levels (different between romanceable and non-romanceable characters), you'll be locked out of increasing this value any further. This is represented by a locked heart icon whenever you perform an action that would normally increase friendship.

What you need to do to unlock this can be seen in the Resident Info tab, where you'd usually see the hearts for each character. On a locked character, it'll instead say either "Has a favor to ask!" or "Something special might happen!"

For "Has a favor to ask!" this means that the character will give you a request, shown by a blue marker next to their portrait on the map. Meanwhile, "Something special might happen!" is exclusive to romanceable characters and indicates that an event will happen. These events are shown with a pink marker on the map.

Romance and Marriage

Choosing the romance option for Derek.

After reaching 6 hearts with a romanceable character, their next event will be where you can choose whether to date them or just stay as friends. If you choose not to date them, then there is no way to reverse this decision. However, as with many other games in the franchise you can date multiple characters at the same time with no penalty.

Before reaching 8 hearts with a character you want to marry, you'll want to head to Wilbur's stall in the bazaar on Saturdays. He sells the double bed, one of two requirements for marriage.

The second requirement is to reach 8 hearts with a character you're dating. This will trigger a cutscene on the next day that nets you the Blue Feather, which can be gifted to characters at 8 hearts or higher (assuming you picked the romantic option at 6 hearts of course.)

Choosing to marry doesn't change much about the overall gameplay loop. The character you marry will move into your house, though outside of a few lines of dialogue little else changes.

Character Requests

Any requests that require you to do "X amount of a thing" are not retroactive, though you can stockpile items for hand in requests. Later requests also require you to have items of a certain star level or higher, so make sure to level up the Harvest Sprites as you play.
