This guide will go over everything you need to know about fishing in Story of Seasons: Grand Bazaar, including upgrading your rod and fish locations.
Getting the Fishing Rod
Fishing in Story of Seasons: Grand Bazaar is relatively simple, having seen a few changes compared to the DS original. On Spring 7, you'll get a basic fishing rod from Wilbur, allowing you to start catching smaller fish.
Fish can be caught in most bodies of water, and is done by equipping your rod from the tool menu and pressing use (X/Y on controller.) You don't have to watch out for shadows or anything specific; a fish will always bite after waiting for a few seconds.
Once a fish bites, press the use button again to start reeling it in. From there, you just need to follow the directional prompts until the fish is worn out (indicated by the blue fish icons). You must do this before the green line strength bar empties, otherwise you'll lose the fish.
Upgrading Your Fishing Rod
To catch rarer (and more lucrative) fish, you must upgrade it at Windmills. The Red Windmill is unlocked via a request from Isaac on Spring 6, though you'll have to level up the bazaar to gain access to the Blue and Yellow Windmills. Each Windmill handles specific tiers of the fishing rod:
- Red Windmill: Copper, Silver
- Blue Windmill: Gold
- Yellow Windmill: Oricalchum
Reel Power and Fish Bait
On Saturdays, you can access Felix's stall at the bazaar. Here, he sells a number of techniques useful in your daily farming life. One of these is Reel Power, something you'll want to get if you fish often.
Once bought, Reel Power activates randomly while reeling in a fish. A prompt will appear, indicating that you should press the use button. Doing so will massively tire out the fish, removing multiple blue icons at once. Early on, having Reel Power trigger is usually the only way you can catch larger fish before the line breaks.
Fish List
For locations, we've marked where we managed to catch each fish, though you can potentially catch them in other places too.
Fish quality is determined by your rank with the Harvest Sprite Finley rather than RNG/rod level, so make sure to give them any spare fish (especially ones that that week's bonus.)
