Hornet's Needle is your main method of attack in Hollow Knight: Silksong, so naturally you'll want to upgrade it where you can. This guide will go over how you can improve the damage of your weapon, including where to find the items that you'll need.
First Needle Upgrade
The first Needle upgrade is one that you can get during Act 1, after completing one of the main objectives. After Greymoor, you'll end up in Bellhart, though initially none of its stores are open. After heading through Shellwood then back into Bellhart to defeat the boss, most parts of the settlement will become available.
This includes Pinmaster Plinney's building, the man you need for the first step. By talking to him, you can get a Needle upgrade there and then, upping its damage and occasionally causing critical hits. Plinney mentions that the Needle can be improved further, if you get him a special type of oil.
The Pinmaster's Oil Wish unlocks right after talking to Plinney again, which is completed by finding any of the Pale Oils in Silksong. There are 3 in total, which we'll go over below in the general order you can find them (note that 2 of the them are in Act 2, and the final oil requires you to complete the "true" ending.)

Choral Chambers
The first Pale Oil is technically found in the Choral Chambers, but to reach it you must first travel through a few other areas.
Head into Cogwork Core first, then go down and right to take a path into Choral Chambers. From there you can rotate the tunnel and head on through into the Whispering Vaults. Once inside, you can head through and then back into a small room in Choral Chambers to claim the oil.
Great Taste of Pharloom
A second Pale Oil can also be found in the Choral Chanbers, as part of the Wish "Great Taste of Pharloom". This Wish requires you to find a number of ingredients from different sources in exchange for the oil.
