This guide will show you how to navigate the Mist in Hollow Knight: Silksong, including what you can get after making through this strange area.

The Mist is an area that can be access by travelling through Sinner's Road. Unlike other areas that can be explored in a regular manner, the Mist is designed to confuse you in a few different ways.

How to Get Through the Mist

You can't rely on a map for this area, as you enter a random section each time you enter (this includes if you die or fall into the fog.) If you try out random exits, you'll quickly find yourself going around in circles.

To explore the Mist, you're going to need to obtain one of Silksong's Ancestral Arts, Needolin. This is only available after you've defeated the boss of Bellhart, which in turn takes you through Shellwood. Going through Shellwood, you can access the upper area of Bellhart and take on Widow.

With Needolin, you can play your Needle like an instrument — hold Y (Xbox), X (Switch), D (Keyboard), Triangle (PlayStation). While this can make some enemies stop attacking briefly, it's also your key to figuring out the correct path in the Mist.

In each section of the Mist, there are small glowing bugs. Using Needolin for a few seconds near them will cause the bugs to fly off. The direction they go is where you'll have to head to reach the correct exit. If you lose sight of them, there are usually more groups of bugs to find.

After the Mist

If done correctly, you'll eventually make it out of the Mist into an area that looks similar to Sinner's Road. After a short walk, you'll be abel to enter a facility known as the Exhaust Organ. At the right of this, you can can travel up the walls, dodging the blasts of steam along the way.

Once you reach the top, you'll encounter Phantom, a boss that uses quick needle attacks and parries. Hit and run tactics are generally the best here, with the best time to heal being when Phantom throws out its needle.

By defeating Phantom, you unlock the Cross Stitch Silk Skill. When equipped to a Crest, it allows you to parry attacks before following up with a counter. Heading out after this, you'll eventually reach a new area after hitting a few switches. This is the Grand Bellway, a section of the Citadel (the area you've been trying to reach during act 1.)

You can spend Rosaries to unlock a fast travel point both for the general map, and for the Citadel. Note that both of these are quite expensive, so we'd recommend only getting the normal fast travel point if you're low on funds.
