There are many locked spaces and chests in Hell is Us. To unlock them, you'll need to find specific rods, known as Lymbic Rods, that match the spaces shown on the lock. Many of these are associated with different Mysteries in the game and hold unique loot. This is what Lymbic Chests and Lymbic Doors are, where to find them and how to get the Lymbic Rods to unlock them in Hell is Us.
How Lymbic Rods Work
You'll first learn about Lymbic Rods after you gain access to Vitalis' house and basement in the Acasa Marshes. You could have collected a rod or two before then, but acquiring the items in Vitalis' basement room will trigger the tutorial information about them.
Lymbic Rods are long and square, with a colored tip that represents the Lymbic Sphere it's associated with. The description for the item will list what type of rod it is, signified by a symbol. There are five rod designs, designated W-Z, that correspond with the different, negative Lymbic Spheres.
When interacting with a Lymbic Chest or Lymbic Door, you'll see the type of rod you need (Terror, Rage, Grief, Ecstasy, or Neutral) at the top. The color of the squares will match the Lymbic Sphere, as well. Additionally, you'll need to match the symbol of the rod with the one you insert. The correct Lymbic Rod will remain in the space, while an incorrect one will pop out.
To open these locks you'll need all the required Lymbic Rods at a single time. Inserting one at a time won't work. Thankfully, the rods you get will have a translation pointing you to the lock they fit. While they do correspond to a certain lock when crafted, you can use them interchangeably as long as the Lymbic Rod matches the color and symbol.
